Overview of this course

Congratulations on registering and welcome!

This course will help you to plan for and deliver successful place-based projects.

When you focus on people and places, you do many things differently. This includes project leadership and management.

Too often, we rush to finish a project, only to see it not funded, opposed by the local community, subject to cost blowouts and/or forgotten in a fast-moving world.

According to studies, some 60–90% of strategic plans never fully launch. The causes of derailment vary widely. While poor implementation is one key reason, the strategy preparation and design process itself can be the real problem, according to the Harvard Business Review.

Conventional project management methods are generally designed for and well-suited to capital works and infrastructure-focused projects. But, these approaches don't always work well in more social, complex and fluid situations, such as main street revitalisation, neighborhood improvement, economic development and community building.
